The goal of the distribution of these professional aids aimed at HIV-positive children is to improve the quality of life of these children and their compliance with the anti-HIV treatment.
These teaching tools, which are adapted to children of different age groups, show how to broach the difficult topic of AIDS without over-dramatizing it. Use is made of a tale, of 13 technical index cards, of a CD-Rom, of a comic strip, and of a notebook of pediatric treatment.
These teaching tools have already been translated in seven languages (French, English, Dutch, Spanish, Roumainian, Polish, Italian). The are presently available in three languages and are already being put to use by various teams in Europe, Canada and Africa.
In the treatment of HIV, compliance is essential and exacting; it is very demanding over the long term, especially during adolescence.
These tools are updated and distributed by the non-profit organization «Explain HIV to infected/affected children» (E.H.T.I.A.C.)
This organization was created to organize the distribution of these teaching aids, to produce translations and to create new tools adapted to the various cultural contexts, particularly in Africa.
We hope that we shall be able to provide these tools, upon request, free of charge to the teams who look after HIV affected families in poor countries.
